ART: Tiye and the Lotus (R)

Title: Tiye and the Lotus
Artist: [personal profile] zephre
Rating: R (for artistic nudity, NSFW)
Character/Subject: Tiye, queen of Egypt
Artists' Notes: Tiye was the Great Royal Wife of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, and mother of Pharaoh Akhenaten. This is based on portrait statues of Tiye and artifacts of the New Kingdom in Egypt, which was my obsession when I was a kid. Also, the lotus may be my favorite flower ever. The pose is based on stock reference photography, as usual.
I was taking a break from all the fandom stuff and decided to do one of the items on my long "to draw, when I have time" list.

ART: Or Are We Dancer? (No Fandom, G)

Title: Or Are We Dancer?
Artist: [personal profile] zephre
Rating: G
Summary: I've been meaning to do this one for a while, ever since I got obsessed with the Killers song, "Human". This one is raw sketching, no reference, just photoshop and the tablet.

ART: Musician (original, G)

I am trying to work more in a style that would be appropriate for grayscale-printed magazine or book interiors, and also develop some portfolio pieces that aren't pr0n.  ;)

Title: Musician
Artist: [info]zephre
Rating: G
Characters: Original Character
Fandom: Original
Notes: The window seat is based on a photo I took at...hm... Pembroke Castle, Wales.

watercolor report

This week we started experimenting with the printing press at the Art League, using clear acetate and watercolor paper.
Three prints together

And after I did my run on the press, I didn't feel inspired to add watercolor to the pieces so I did a new one.

This is what I started last week as an exercise in values and shapes.

This one was for our class on scale - in this case man and vast weather.

ART! Finally, ART!

Yes, people, it's the return of the weekly watercolor class reports!  Until I get my household in order, this may be the only art for a while!

watercolor report

Today I whipped out two decent pieces, instead of the usual one awesome one and one craptastic one.
Of course, that means I now have fewer duds to noodle on the back of, but oh, well. Our exercise was "saving the whites" for which we mostly painted laundry.

This one has some wax pencil on it, which didn't work quite as well as I'd hoped.

Also, Neil deGrasse Tyson was on the Daily Show just now and he was awesome! WIN!
