[info]mnemosyne_1 posted this and I thought, 'Hey! I could try drabbling! It will be fun!"
Well, fun for me. Maybe not so much for the folks who have to read them...

I will write a drabble for the first five (or so) commenters to request one. In return, they have to post this in their journal (if they want). You may request the character and/or the pair for the Harry Potter fandom and give me a prompt.

when the cavalry reaches Calvary...

Ok, peeps, I am so behind on reading and writing and drawing and everything. Egads.

I feel rather disconnected from my tasks at the moment, not quite sure what to do about that, but hopefully a weekend will aid in getting me back on track.

I'm wondering if I should look for an art beta for my summersmut entry... It's a bit different for me.

Also, today's extra special spelling peeve is in the title. I have given the whole lose/loose thing a miss because it's just so incredibly pervasive that correction seems futile at this point. (And from a linguistic perspective, is there really anything in lose to suggest that you say it looz? I can understand the confusion especially from people who have not had much reading comprehension training or for whom English is not their first language, and wow is that a digression or what?)

Anyway. Spelling. Tripping me up like there's no tomorrow...

Calvary - one of the names for the location outside Jerusalem where executions took place, specifically the crucifixion of Jesus the Nazarene in the 1st century BCE. The name comes from the Latin word calvaria, the roof of the skull. In literature, a reference to Calvary often means coming doom or death.

cavalry - warriors mounted on horses, and occasionally in modern military parlance, armored vehicles. From the Vulgate Latin caballus, horse. In literature, cavalry usually means warriors mounted on horses.

Calvary does not ride to the rescue. Ever. (Except here) Thank you.

file under' IJ knows all'

Ok, is there a name (preferably a British term) for the junior partner in a firm who gets all the grunt work or the worst clients or the crap travel assignments? (this is a Wizarding Law Firm, or whatever the term would be - not sure if they are solicitors or what, I should look into that)

This is sort of mild corporate hazing, I guess, the testing stage for a new person (and in this case it's Pansy Parkinson coming to work for Hermione and Susan Bones so there's History there) - but is there a name for that person or that role?

I am drawing a blank.

Also, if anybody wants to wax eloquent on their idea of what a Wizarding Law Firm would look like, or what British firms are like (or the difference between a barrister and a solicitor, although my historical fiction reading seems to indicate that only one of those would be able to appear in formal court?), please feel oh so very free to do so.

Cheers!

rewrites

So I was working on editing the good bits of my nanowrimo experiment, adding some new chapters to round out the plot, and thinking I could put it on decafest because the main line of story does take place Ten Years After.
But I can't bring myself to let Snape and Lupin stay dead.  :P
They're alive and raising Teddy together and being involved in all kinds of things with the future of the Wizarding World in my AU, and I like it!
The Malfoys also make a good showing.
I have my biases, I suppose.  ;)
So I may not post it to decafest, but at least the fest has made me open the file again. There's some good stuff in there, including a couple of sections that could totally be one-shots.
Maybe I will post them now!

FIC: The Wolf and the Spy (1/?)

This is something of an experiment, so maybe my readers can let me know if it's worth pursuing further.

Title: The Wolf and the Spy
Author: [info]zephre
Rated:  PG this part
Word Count: 2,947
Prompt: 100 quills Table 50.2: Chains
Characters this part:  Remus, Severus, Luna
Pairings in series overall: Remus/Severus, Luna/Harry, Salazar/Helga
Summary:  Captured during a full moon while in possession of vital information for the rebels and for Hogwarts, Remus finds himself ransomed by taciturn potioner Severus of Snape, whose loyalties are in question. Together with a gifted former slave and an impetuous young lord, they must make their way north through Wessex, Mercia, and Northumbria, unto Alba and the sanctuary of the new and fragile Wizarding Alliance centered at Hogwarts castle.
Warnings:  So very, very Alternate Reality. Will feature slash and het!
Notes: This story and its associated series (The "Beginnings" series) take the characters of our familiar books and place them in the 11th century, the time of the Norman Conquest in Britain (and the Founding of Hogwarts). Yes, the Founders are all involved, too.
I have changed just about everybody's surname to be more reflective of what they would have been called in period, but have tried to maintain them as recognizable figures.
According to the calendar I have chosen to use, the Hare Moon is in May.

FIC: The Bringer of Hope (Salazar/Helga, PG)

Title: The Bringer of Hope
Author: [info]zephre
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 1,141
Characters: Salazar Slytherin/Helga Hufflepuff (Silas/Helge)
Warnings: none, really. See Notes.
Summary: In the aftermath of the Norman Conquest, Salazar discovers a survivor he never expected to see again.
Notes: I have made some linguistic changes and assumptions about names based on research into the situation of England and its neighbors during the end of the 10th century and through the Conquest. I have assumed that "Parselmouth" and "Muggle" have not yet entered the language. Also, since the concept of a "university" doesn't enter Europe for another few hundred years, I have posited a very different origin story for Hogwarts. The Fairy Tale of the Sorting Hat is to this story as the Arthurian tales are to Post-Roman Britain.
Yes, this is the same Founders' Era world in which I am setting my Snupin story. ;) It makes sense in my head.

stop the insanity!

I've started writing Norman Conquest/Founders' Era Snupin.

I need so much help. ;)

from my notes:
Remus had been in contact with a difficult and taciturn spy, one with whom he also feels a tie of destiny. the spy is called Severus of Snape, a Yorkshire potioner who was a disciple of Slytherin and now infiltrates the Norman forces on behalf of the newly-founded Hogwarts alliance. not many in Britain are aware of his dual role; he does not himself suspect that Remus knows.
but Remus is a disciple of Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and Hufflepuff herself knows many of Slytherin's secrets. there is tension among the Founders, as the Norman conquest rolls over England, but they hold fast to each other in the face of a stronger enemy. Hogwarts, they are determined, shall outlast the Conquest.

Each of them with its own little traditions and distinctive fashion choices.
I make notes here so I can go back and refer to them later. Feel free to adopt or borrow any of these.  ;) It's all open source, yo.
