Advent Drabbles Dec 01
Don't ask where it came from, must be the lingering memories of my Butterfly Center Entomology Trauma.
I just pulled this one out using Write or Die.
Title: By Moonlight
Word Count: 100
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing/Character: Luna Lovegood
Warning: touch of angst
Disclaimer: Work of a fan, for fans, no profit at all.
By moonlight, the beetles turned white as alabaster or clear as crystal. Luna wandered among them, and they glittered in her hair like jewels. She imagined her hiking gear and winter robes as a fantastical gown, iridescent in the moonlight, and the beetles were her fairy guides on a mystical journey. It was easy to be among them as a fairy princess, harder as a researcher. She wanted to befriend them, not pin them to a page.
When the sun rose, the insects dulled to common and lackluster brown, and Luna dulled again to herself, pale, odd, and alone.
